Our Memorial Day Weekend

We had an amazing Memorial Day weekend. I booked us a hotel in Klamath Falls, OR for two nights and then told Seth we were going to Crater Lake, whether he wanted to or not. Thankfully he wanted too. I am trying to get Seth to experience new places, as his main vacation when he was young was Utah. Utah is gorgeous and we always have fun going there, but there are so many other beautiful places God has provided for us, we should thank him by visiting them.
So we packed up the Tahoe and left Saturday morning. We took our time getting up there. We stopped at Lake Shasta and the caverns. We saw Mt. Shasta through the clouds. We went and enjoyed Weed and had our lunch there. We even found a lake called Abram's Lake. The drive up was beautiful, but it rained most of the time. We were so high up though that the we were driving through the clouds.

We arrived in Klamath Falls, OR right at check in time. To the kids dismay, the pool and spa were still closed for the season, but our room was really nice. We all took naps and then headed out to explore Klamath Falls. We went to a BBQ place for dinner and looked all around. It is a really neat town. They have their older part, with beautiful brick buildings and a country feel and then there is the newer part with amenities like Wal Mart and a bowling ally. They also have a beautiful memorial park for our military heroes. We went back to the hotel and went to bed to rest up for the next day.

Sunday we woke up and made the one hour drive to Crater Lake. It was a beautiful drive. Everything in Oregon is so green. We got to Crater Lake and it was a winter wonderland. There was snow everywhere, which was beautiful, but a little disappointing. All the roads and trails around the lake were closed, which meant no fishing. We got over it though and were inspired by the beauty of this lake. The pictures can't do it justice. It is the deepest lake in North America and the bluest in the world. I also think they said it is the cleanest lake in the world too. The kids had fun making a snow man, and Seth had fun hiking around dangerous areas to get good pictures.

We headed back to the hotel and a huge storm hit. It was hailing pretty bad, so we decided to go bowling for the night, since the rain kind of ruined any other plans we may have had. We had a blast bowling. Abram gave up after 3 frames, but Scarlett is a pro. She even beat me. She was really good.

Monday morning we slept in and then headed to Ashland. We stopped on the way at a beautiful river so Seth and the kids could fish, while I stayed in the car with the babies and read my newest obsession The Host. They didn't catch anything, but Seth taught Scarlett how to cast and he said she was pretty good. We arrived in Ashland, which is one of my favorite towns, but it was really busy. We took the kids to Lithia park, which is beautiful. Is has Ashland creek on one side and the Shakespeare theaters on the other. We walked around for awhile, the kids drank out of the Lithia fountain. It is a fountain of mineral water, so it is thick and bubbly and tastes like iron. We finished there and then headed home.

We had a nice drive home and we had such a fun trip it was hard for it to be over. There are more pictures of our trip on my MySpace page if you wanted to check them out.
